Fiction
In 1631, Sara de Vos is admitted as a painter to Amsterdam’s Guild of St. Luke. Though women do not paint landscapes, Sara paints a wintery outdoor scene. In 1957, Sara’s only surviving work hangs in the bedroom of a Manhattan lawyer. A grad student, Ellie Shipley, forges the painting for a dubious art dealer. In 2000, now an art historian, Ellie mounts an exhibition of Golden Age painters, and the life she has constructed threatens to unravel. Published in 2016; 290 pages.
